Meet the producers webinar: FairWild certified Liquorice

October 2021 - Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza sp.) is prized for applications including traditional medicine, herbal tea and cosmetics. However, despite its wide use, the understanding of conservation and social risks surrounding the trade in wild liquorice root is limited, including among businesses that incorporate it into their products.

With herbal supplement sales increasing rapidly in 2020 (including by more than 17% in the USA) and coupled with the inclusion of Liquorice in many traditional medicine formulations for Covid-19 treatments, it is likely that risks in supply chains will have been amplified during recent years.

In FairWild’s latest webinar, we will be looking at some of the risks and opportunities in global Liquorice supply chains, including a more detailed look at Liquorice from Kazakhstan, an important source country, and the role of FairWild certification in helping to mitigate these risks. We will also introduce FairWild certified Liquorice producers and highlight how interested companies can connect to both currently certified businesses and those working towards certification.

Join the FairWild Foundation, TRAFFIC and FairWild businesses on Wednesday 10 November to learn more about:

  • The environmental and social risks in Liquorice supply chains

  • The situation in an important source country: Kazakhstan

  • The role of FairWild certification in mitigating supply chain risks, empowering collectors and preserving biodiversity
