Public Consultation: Revision of the FairWild Standard

Consultation period: 10 April 2023 – 26 April 2023

Topic: Revision of the FairWild Standard

WHY WE ARE CONSULTING:

 This year, the FairWild Foundation are reviewing the FairWild Standard (v2.0) and its related tools to better adapt to the current paradigm evolving our mission to bring respect and protection for the planet, plants and people through the sustainable and fair collection of wild plants.

The revision aims to address the following:

 1) The demands and emerging issues of the evolving global sustainability agenda;

 2) How to increase the accessibility and cost-effectiveness of our Standard and certification system while remaining rigorous and robust.

The FairWild Standard is considered a gold standard of sustainability. We believe that whole ecosystems and supply chains, from landscapes, harvesters, C-level executives, or anyone responsible for botanical supply chain quality, sustainability, visibility, and assessments of corporate social responsibility in supply chains, to responsible consumers will benefit from an upgraded Standard with modernised approaches to delivering assurance regarding positive impacts on livelihoods and landscapes.

1ST CONSULTATION ROUND:

As the first step in this process, we are opening a call for stakeholder feedback on the current version of the Standard (v2.0). Topics we would especially appreciate input on include:

  • What works well in the Standard and auditing process and should be maintained?

  • What topics or themes in the Standard require updating or strengthening?

  • What new topics or themes have emerged since the previous version of the Standard was written which should be incorporated?

We welcome all stakeholders to provide written input via email until April 26 via secretariat@fairwild.org.

 We will also be holding two online meetings to facilitate stakeholder input to allow stakeholders across multiple time zones to attend:

  • Thursday, 27 April, 09:00 UK time (10:00 Central European Summer Time / 13:45 Nepal / 16:00 China Standard Time / 18:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time)  - Register here

  • Friday, 28 April, 17:00 UK time (09:00 Pacific Daylight Time / 11:00 Ecuador / 12:00 Eastern Daylight Time / 13:00 Brazil)  - Register here

Please register to attend.

 We are also still seeking donations to ensure the project is a success, as well as to finance our Operator Support Fund. Find more information here and how to donate.
